Meet Tracie Smith-McCarthy.

I'm the principal designer and founder of TRACED Interiors, a full-service interior design firm in Portland, Oregon. My approach starts with what's already there — the space, and the story behind it — and traces that forward into something that actually feels like the people living in it.

This firm has gone through a few versions before landing here. It used to be called Design Theory, a name I picked when I started in 2019. A trip to High Point Market changed how I saw the industry — and what I was building could be. Somewhere in that shift, it became TRACED: my own name, but also the actual method — tracing memory, culture, and story, and bringing forward what still matters.

Outside the studio, I'm the mother of five. I bake a mean lemon bar, I could spend an afternoon in front of Black art or an abstract piece that stops me in my tracks, and if there's music on, I'm probably moving to it — salsa's still on my list to actually learn, but until then I just dance to whatever moves me.
